I find this flashlight to be the perfect companion to my night sky viewing. The adjustable intensity allows me to decrease the brightness as my eyes adjust to the darkness. I would have liked the ability to switch between white and red LED's, as the white light would have been handy setting things up. I used a (2AA) battery mag-light with a red lens before and found it to be too bright.
I recently purchased this flashlight and have been very disappointed. The light from the unit is strong enough for my needs but I'd prefer the small light on my key chain over this product, although Celestron's unit does have a nice brightness control. Orion's light may be a little better for my needs because it also has a white light for all other non-stargazing applications. For those of us who haul their telescopes across dark fields in the middle of the night this light will not help get us to our stargazing spot, but it will help when we get there.
This is a very nice red beam flashlight. If I would add anything it should be a little brighter. Well worth the money though.
Hi, I purchased this flashlight based on Celestron being a brand that knows about night time. THAT was fine. The light from the two LED's is very weak. Yes, it is red, but after this light being completely not enough for the work I was doing, I got some red gel and put it over a flash light. Too small, underpowered and over priced. Skip this product.
The lanyard is very long, so you have a lot of freedom of movement, but it won't get lost easily. Sure, it's expensive for a flashlight. Unlike a headlamp, you won't find yourself bonking it against the telescope accidentally.About the only thing I can think to complain about is the use of a 9V battery.come on. But - it's cross-section is square, so it doesn't roll away in the dark. The brightness is adjustable so you can tone it down after your eyes have become accustomed to the darkness. Every other flashlight this size on the planet uses AA size batteries, and I own a pile of rechargeable AAs.but not a single 9V. Recommended.
